one morning, In a field behind my home in massachusetts, I picked enough Sumac leaves to create a fairly wide color spectrum.

I stored the leaves outside in the shade — between wet paper towels in a wicker basket — until I was set up to photograph. The studio lights and other equipment were moved into our shed so I could work in cool, damp conditions. Even so, the leaves dried quickly once laid on the background paper. – Cary Wolinsky
